Yara works best when it can see what you are looking at. You can give it files, your saved resumes and portfolios, and your tracked applications right from the message box. This guide shows each way to add context to a chat.
1. Attach a file
Drag a file onto the message box, or click + and choose Upload a file. You can also paste an image straight into the box.
The file appears as a chip above your message. You can attach several files at once.
Type what you want, for example "read this resume and remember it", and send.
Yara reads PDF, Word (.docx), text, Markdown, CSV and JSON files, plus PNG, JPG, GIF and WEBP images. You can attach MP4, MOV and WEBM videos and preview them, but Yara cannot watch video content yet, so describe what matters or share a few screenshots instead.
2. Preview an attachment
Click any file chip, before or after you send, to open a preview of the file, image or video.
3. See what Yara read
When Yara opens a file you will see a Read a file step in its reply. Click it to expand the details. Yara then tells you what it took from the file, such as your roles, skills and graduation date. If you have Memory turned on in Settings, Yara can save these details for future chats; if something conflicts with your profile, it asks first or keeps it to the current chat.
You can combine a file and a request in one message, for example "find data analyst roles in Austin that fit this resume". Yara reads the file first, then runs the search using what it found.
4. Mention your applications, resumes and portfolios
Click + in the message box.
Hover Applications or Library to see your items. Type to search the list, and hover an item to see its full title, status and location.
Click an item to add it to your message as a mention, then send.
Mention a resume or portfolio to open it next to the chat, or add an instruction like "tighten the summary". Mention an application to pull up its card, then click the card to see the job, its status, your application kit and materials.
Use Manage applications or Manage library at the bottom of each list to jump to the full Applications or Library page. The + menu also has Search roles, Import portfolio (from a link, GitHub, a ZIP file or Figma) and Skills.
5. Dictate a message
Click the microphone in the message box, speak, then click the check mark to insert the text. Review it before sending, since names and product terms can be misheard.
6. Send more while Yara is working
You do not have to wait for a reply. Messages you send while Yara is busy line up in a queue above the message box.
Drag the handle on a queued message to change the order.
Click the pencil to edit it, or the trash icon to remove it. An Undo button appears if you remove one by mistake.
Click Send now on the next message to stop the current reply and send that message right away.
To stop a reply without sending anything else, click the stop button in the message box. If a message cannot be sent, for example when your connection drops, Yara shows a Retry button.
7. Edit a message you already sent
Hover one of your messages and click the pencil. Change the text and click Save. Yara replaces the replies after that message and answers again from the edited version.
Saving an edit removes the later replies in that chat, so copy anything you want to keep first.
