Use skills in chat: roasts, tailoring, applications, outreach, and portfolios

Start a skill with / or the + menu, and what each skill gives you.

Written by Abdullah Atif

Skills are ready-made jobs you can hand to Yara in one step: roast your resume or profiles, tailor a resume, prepare an application, write outreach, and build or import a portfolio. This guide shows how to start a skill and what each one gives you.

1. Open the skills menu

  1. Click in the message box and type /. The skills menu opens above the box.

  2. Use the arrow keys and press Enter, or click a skill. It drops into the message box as a green chip.

  3. Add anything the skill needs after the chip, for example a link, then press Enter to send.

You can also click + and hover Skills. Hover any skill to read what it does before you pick it.

2. Roast your resume, LinkedIn, GitHub, or portfolio

  1. /roast-resume: send it on its own. Yara reads your default resume and scores it.

  2. /roast-linkedin: paste your public profile URL after the chip, for example linkedin.com/in/yourname.

  3. /roast-github: paste your GitHub profile URL or username.

  4. /roast-portfolio: paste your site URL, or name a Yara portfolio.

  5. /roast-everything: send it on its own. Yara asks for your LinkedIn, portfolio, and GitHub in a short form (leave any blank), runs all four audits at once, and scores the whole set out of 100.

Roast everything asking for LinkedIn, portfolio, and GitHub links

Each roast opens with a score, then a scorecard and a fix list ordered by effort. If a part could not be read (for example a profile photo), Yara says so and leaves it out of the score instead of guessing. Yara never changes anything during a roast. Click Make these changes under the reply when you want it to apply the fixes it can make, such as resume or Yara portfolio edits. For LinkedIn and GitHub it writes paste-ready copy, since it cannot edit those sites for you.

3. Tailor your resume to a role

  1. Click +, hover Applications, and pick the role. It appears as a blue chip. You can also paste a job link.

  2. Type Tailor my resume to this role and send.

  3. Yara edits the resume saved for that role and tells you what changed. Your default resume is not touched.

4. Prepare an application

  1. Reference the role the same way, then type Prepare my application for this role.

  2. Yara reads the real apply form, tailors your resume, and saves an application kit with a fit score, your contact details, and a drafted answer for each question.

  3. Fields marked Needs you are things only you can confirm, like office location or work authorization. Fill them in, submit on the company's site, then press I've applied.

If the application is already marked applied, Yara will tell you and ask for the posting link of a new one.

5. Write outreach

  1. Type /outreach and say who you want to reach and why, for example the hiring manager for a role at a company.

  2. If Yara needs to find the person, it asks before using people credits. Click Use up to 5 credits to continue.

  3. Pick a person from the results (or ask Yara to choose), and ask it to draft. You get an email and a LinkedIn version with copy and send buttons.

6. Build or import a portfolio

Build a portfolio: type /build-portfolio and paste your site link. Yara reads each work page, imports the projects, and asks you to pick a template. Pick one and press Send; a live preview opens with Share and Publish.

Import a portfolio as it is: click +, hover Import portfolio, and choose Link, GitHub, ZIP file, or Figma. For a link, paste the address (Framer, Webflow, Lovable, or any site, up to 5 pages) and click Import. Yara copies the pages, images, and fonts, checks the result against the original, and opens a preview. A large site can take a few minutes.

Only one portfolio import runs at a time per account. If Yara says an import is already running, wait for it to finish and try again.

Tips

  1. You can run several skills at once in separate chats.

  2. Answer Yara's question cards when they appear; a skill waits for your answer before it continues.

  3. Every chat is saved under Chats, so you can come back to a roast or draft later.
